The start of the year is always a good time to reflect on positive experiences of the past year and to look forward to new and exciting opportunities and adventures in the coming year. At the end of 2018, Babanango Outdoor Education (BOE) had lots on the go with new management taking over the establishment, and with it – big plans to improve the overall experience for our visiting students and teachers. We also ended off the year in December on a high note with a new initiative that saw 60 local pupils from Babanango Primary and High School join us for a complimentary day of outdoor education, which they would normally never have access to.
It was a truly inspiring experience with the kids engaging with our expert facilitators in various activities we offer that included the popular mine tour activities, as well as enjoying a delicious lunch and snacks that we had prepared for them. The aim of this initiative was not only to uplift and give back to the local community through this outing but to also create community awareness about what we do and why this kind of outdoor education is so important and effective as a means of enriching young enquiring minds.
In fact, the initiative was so well received that news of this event reached the United States where Craig and Connie (from Hartwick College in New York) decided to donate some of the funds for their own outreach project they raise annually for the Babanango community and Orphanage by his school, to cover the transport for the Babanango Primary and High School learners to attend future outings to BOE.
We are so excited for what 2019 has in store for us as we get ready to welcome all the bright young minds from schools around the country who want to be inspired and equipped with invaluable life skills and knowledge that will also give them a greater appreciation for the world around them. Keep a lookout on our blog for other outreach programmes we have on the cards this year that aim to uplift and empower the youth of Northern KZN.
The team at Babanango Game Reserve are excited to announce that as of November 2018, Babanango Outdoor Education, previously Outdoor Education & Adventures, will fall under their care and management.
While this change is a significant moment for both companies, we’d like to assure all of our loyal Babanango Outdoor Education guests, both past and future, that they can expect the same dedication and service from Russell, Paula and the team as well as some exciting new developments! We are fully committed to being the best educational school tour in KZN.
So, what’s new?
The change will see an updated curriculum and the introduction of a host of new activities to further inspire and educate our students. All of our tours have been intentionally crafted with the students in mind to ensure that every lesson and each activity not only educates but also instils a strong sense of culture and honour. Our aim is to equip the youth with invaluable life skills while giving them the freedom to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty of the Babanango Valley.
Our campsites are geared toward offering both students and teachers a pleasant stay for the duration of their time with us. We can accommodate up to 120 students at our Permanent Tented Main Camp, which comes equipped with comfortable camping mattresses. Teachers are either accommodated in our Country Lodge or in an en-suite safari-style Luxury Tent. You will be pleased to know that hot water and electricity is available throughout. Our Babanango Outdoor Education facilities will be undergoing an upgrade in early 2019, including a revamp of the teachers’ facility at the lodge.
We have even come up with some new and exciting dishes for our restaurant menu. Each meal is lovingly prepared on-site to ensure maximum freshness and taste.
Our team is growing!
Lastly, (but definitely not least!) we are so pleased to welcome Tracy Tilbury to the BOE team as our new reservation’s manager. Tracy, alongside the rest of the Babanango Outdoor Education team, look forward to continuing the legacy of providing students with a truly unique learning experience from the beauty of the African bush.
