LEARNING BY DOING

Our activities and courses are designed to make the best of the incredible natural beauty and the rich biodiversity that occurs our Camp.

Matatane Camp is fully fenced and comprises 130 hectares of pristine wilderness that’s safe to explore. Our strict safety standards are rigorously upheld by our dedicated team of professionally trained and highly skilled facilitators and staff members. The health and safety of all guests at BOE is our priority, and participants are always fully briefed.

BOE offers the following activities and tours*:

* Please note that all activities require comfortable, practical shoes.

History

Duration 8 hours each

Our history-related activities draw on the rich heritage of Zululand and its people. During these activities, students are taken on a historic journey of the many battles fought in the area as well as what life looked like during the reign of King Shaka.

Geography

Duration 1-2 hours

Given our location, we are able to offer students an in-depth interaction and exploration of their natural surroundings. Included in this is the unique opportunity for students to visit an old copper mine as well as the beautiful Mangeni Falls.

Ecology / Life Sciences

Duration 2 hours

These activities provide students with the chance to delve deeper into a range of interesting ecological-related studies, as well as a bit of fun in the form of a good old-fashioned scavenger hunt.

Social Awareness

Duration 2-3 hours

Possibly our most thought-provoking activities see students stepping outside their comfort zone and having the opportunity to engage with those that are less fortunate than themselves. Students are also given the opportunity to experience the day-to-day life of a modern-day Zulu village.

Leadership & Team Building

Duration 2 hours

These activities are primarily focused on revealing each students’ inner leader as well as equipping them with the tools necessary to navigate relationship dynamics within the context of teamwork.

Evening Activities

Duration 1-2 hours

Our evening activities are perfectly suited to provide students with both a fun and educational experience of bush life under the beauty of the night sky.

General Interest

Duration 3-4 hours

Given Matatane Camp’s 130-hectares of scenic hiking trails to explore, we’ve developed a range hiking and outdoor-related activities that allow students to discover the beauty of the surrounding flora and fauna.

Community Development

Duration 1-2 hours

We firmly believe in engaging with and giving back to underprivileged communities and therefore extend this opportunity to our students by offering them the chance to visit a local school in the Zulu Rock or Nhlazatshe area.
