BABANANGO OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Pioneering with purpose
Building for the future by teaching tomorrow’s leaders

Babanango Outdoor Education (BOE), one of South Africa’s leading school camp locations, has a new home at Matatane Camp – a 130-hectare fenced-off area in the beautiful Babanango Game Reserve.

BOE hosts school and university groups, research teams and conservation NGOs, and has built its name by offering a range of interactive, immersive and hands-on activities and courses designed to equip young people with invaluable life skills, leaving them with a greater appreciation of both people and planet.

Through these facilitated activities our guests embark on a journey of self-discovery, widen their perspectives, and learn about nature and how to build effective relationships with others – all while having the time of their lives!

Our courses have been hand-crafted to ensure every lesson and activity both educates and instils a strong sense of culture, respect and integrity, taking their lead from the incredible natural beauty of Matatane Camp and the greater Babanango Game Reserve that surrounds it.

BABANANGO GAME RESERVE

CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
IN ACTION…

Located just 70km from the town of Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal’s beautiful Zulu heartland, the 22,000ha Babanango Game Reserve is a ground-breaking conservation project that also benefits local communities while protecting rare and endangered wildlife species for generations to come.

The reserve has been pioneered by African Habitat Conservancy, an NGO set up to focus on the conservation of African wildlife in the northern KwaZulu-Natal region by investing in both the environment and the local Esibongweni, KwaNgono and Emcakwini communities. It aims to realise the communities’ shared dream of conserving a unique and fragile environment while creating fresh possibilities for the people who live around it.

Visitors to the reserve can see a variety of plains game including giraffe, zebra and antelope species such as wildebeest, impala, kudu, bushbuck and waterbuck. The elusive aardvark and aardwolf have also been spotted.

Matatane Camp and BOE are an integral part of the Babanango family, along with Babanango Valley Lodge and Zulu Rock Lodge and directly contribute to the reserve’s goals and commitments, so by booking a school group with BOE, you are making a lasting difference to both people and planet.
